Flower Care

Like you, we want your flowers to last as long as possible. We hope you find these tips helpful…

Cut Flowers (posies and bouquets)

Using cold tap water fill a clean vase (for looks and for minimum bacteria) to a level that will allow all the flower stems to be immersed in the water (about two thirds full).

Add to the water the flower preserver that has been included with your flowers. Remove any foliage (leaves) that would be immersed in the water. Cut about 2cm off the stems (on an angle) Place the vase in a cool place away from direct sunlight, strong heat and draughts.

Change the water every other day, adding half a teaspoon of bleach to the water to prolong the life of your flowers. If you have time also recut the stems on an angle. As some of the flowers begin to wilt, fade or droop, either cut back or remove from the vase and continue to enjoy the flowers that remain.

Arrangements

Place flowers in a cool place away from direct sunlight, strong heat and draughts.

Top up with water each day. ENJOY!

Specific Flower Tips:
Lilies

As soon as the flower opens, pick off the stamens (brown/yellow long bits) to prevent getting the yellow pollen on everything (it can stain). If they have opened and are powdery, use a tissue to remove.

Tulips

Tulips will keep growing taller whilst in the vase and will follow the light, recut stems to keep them at a length you like and position under light to keep them growing straight (otherwise they will grow in all crazy directions)

Hydrangeas

The flowers drink from the head, a misting with a water sprayer is beneficial. When they are looking tired, fill the sink with water and leave the heads under water for 2 to 3 minutes before placing back in the vase.

Tropical Flowers

(Such as Gingers, Heliconias, Orchids, and Anthuriums) As for hydrangeas these flowers love to be misted and also look so much more wonderful with a fine cover of water over them.

Christmas Bush:
